TV Documentary: Mijn Missie – Dutch TV

Working with a TV production company demands a lot of energy, commitment and perseverance. Everything has to be in place within a certain time frame.  In this paragraph our collaboration with Gijs Wanders of Mijn Missie.

In TV Documentary: Mijn Missie – Dutch TV, UN veterans revisit the countries they were posted many years ago. They explore the impact of their military mission and experience if and how things have changed in the years since their departure. Cambodia is the subject of one of the episodes. In 1992-1993 the UN took over the administration of Cambodia by means of UNTAC (United Nations Transitional Authority Cambodia). The operation included 22.000 military and civil personnel from 45 different countries. In other words. Its was a huge operation.

UNTAC Helicopter pilot

In My Mission one of them, a pilot from the Dutch airforce, returned to Cambodia to see the differences between now and then. The producer and presenter of the program is Gijs Wanders. Gijs was for many years the anchorman of the Dutch national News program NOS Journaal, meanwhile, he also wrote many children’s novels. In 2005 he formed his own company. www.gijswanders.nl

The central role in this TV documentary Mijn Missie is Gepco Ruitenberg. He was a helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force. In addition, he served 24 years ago with the UN mission in Cambodia. And later he was also deployed to Bosnia. Today he is a pilot on the trauma helicopter of the ANWB.

In the TV series “My Mission” by Omroep MAX, created by Gijs Wanders, Gepco returns to Cambodia together with colleague Petra, a nurse on the trauma helicopter.
His return trip has special meetings, for example  with Aki Ra, at the time a child soldier of the Khmer Rouge. As penance, he is now clearing his country of mines.

Cambodian Travel Partner is proud to have been the local fixer for this program. We arranged all the filming permits and scouted for film locations and interesting persons. Above all, we supplied transport, accommodation and translators.

Mijn Missie (My Mission) was broadcast on National Dutch TV in July 2017 by Omroep Max.
