Neak Pean is a unique and poetic site, originally designed as a spiritual hospital. Located in the center of the North Baray, this 12th-century Buddhist temple consists of a central square pond surrounded by four smaller ponds. In the middle of the main pool sits a circular island with two coiled serpents (Nagas) at its base, giving the temple its name: "Entwined Serpents." The design symbolizes Anavatapta, a mythical Himalayan lake whose waters were believed to cure all illnesses. Reaching the temple via a long wooden boardwalk across the scenic, flooded forest is a serene and unforgettable experience.
