Siem Reap Tourism Alliance & Kratie: Joining Forces for Sustainable Growth
On Friday, May 8th, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) hosted a dynamic workshop. This event brought together tourism stakeholders from Kratie and the Siem Reap Tourism Alliance (STA). The session took place at the stunning new Destination Eco-Talents (DET) center at Artisans Angkor. Mr. Ken Wood, a WWF Tourism Consultant, led the inspiring workshop.

Six co-founders of the STA attended to share their hard-earned expertise. Our core message was clear: community projects must run as businesses. This approach marks a refreshing departure from the traditional NGO model. Over the last 20 years, many projects in Cambodia relied solely on aid. As private sector leaders, we champion this new vision. We want to empower communities to attract more travelers to these hidden gems.
The Mekong Region, including Kratie, holds immense untapped potential. Local stakeholders can reap incredible rewards with a strategic roadmap. Our members are now ready to mentor others. This is thanks to our work within the STA and the transformative GIZ ICONE workshops led by Nicolas Hatz.

The morning was incredibly educational. We are certain that Kratie’s stakeholders gained fresh insights to put their region on the map. Looking ahead, Mr. Ken Wood plans to secure funding for a FAM trip. This will further bridge the gap between communities and the private sector. Additionally, Mr. Visal invited the Kratie team to speak at the upcoming TA Club event in Siem Reap.
