Jayavarman VII Library – Discover Cambodia’s Cultural Heritage
Located in the Chreav area of Siem Reap, the Jayavarman VII Library is a fascinating cultural and educational centre dedicated to preserving Cambodia’s rich history and Khmer heritage. Founded in 2018 by Kosal Mey, the library is much more than a collection of books. Visitors can explore historical maps, photographs, archaeological information, and exhibitions highlighting the remarkable achievements of the ancient Khmer Empire. Kosal, who is currently involved in restoration work at the famous Bayon Temple, passionately shares his knowledge of Khmer history, ancient temples, and historical road networks.
The library also plays an important role in the local community. Children from surrounding villages have the opportunity to learn traditional Khmer musical instruments and classical Apsara dance, helping preserve Cambodia’s cultural traditions for future generations. For travellers interested in archaeology, temple restoration, and Cambodia’s lesser-known historical sites, this is a particularly rewarding experience.
We recommend arranging an appointment several days in advance, allowing time for a more personal and informative visit.
The Jayavarman VII Library offers something different from the usual sightseeing attractions: an opportunity to meet people actively working to protect and share Cambodia’s extraordinary cultural heritage.
