Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center: A Haven for Rescued Animals

Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center is Cambodia's largest zoo, spanning over 6,000 acres of protected forest. Established in 1995, it's a haven for over 1,200 rescued animals across 102 species, including endangered elephants, tigers, and gibbons. The center is a collaborative effort between the Cambodian government and Wildlife Alliance, dedicated to rescuing animals from the illegal wildlife trade and providing them with a safe sanctuary.

A unique opportunity to delve deeper into the center's work is offered through the Behind-the-Scenes tour. This exclusive experience allows visitors to explore areas typically closed to the public, offering an intimate look at the rescue and rehabilitation process. You can interact with rescued baby macaques, witness the care given to young animals in the nursery, and even observe the training of elephants like Chhouk, famous for her prosthetic foot. The tour provides a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by these animals and the tireless efforts made to protect them.

Beyond the behind-the-scenes tour, Phnom Tamao offers a chance to observe a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat. It's a rewarding experience for animal lovers and a crucial step in supporting wildlife conservation in Cambodia.
